The Downside of Being a Mom

Gasp! What?! Gasp! You mean there IS a downside to being a mom? And that someone will actually talk about it?! Yuppers! Now, don't get me wrong...I love having kids. I love being a Mom..I really do! It's just that sometimes that joy gets hidden in the, dare I say, drudgery of everyday life. My husband regularly works 13 hour days, and if you add in the hour of drive time, that means he's gone 14 hours out of the day. So, I'm alone almost all the time. It's up to me to change all the diapers, make all the meals, do all the dishes, do all the laundry, take care of all the discipline and do all that other not so fun Mom stuff. So, between all those chores, and they are definitely chores, I sort of forget that being a Mom can be fun. There are days when I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my mind. Take the other day, for instance. I was sick, Adelae was being awful (jumping on the furniture, back talking, etc), Brinna was screaming at the top of her lungs, the dishes needed done, the living room was a disaster, I had two weeks worth of laundry to fold and put away, and it was about 8 hours until Ben came home from work. I sat down in the middle of the mess and cried and cried. Of course, this just made my contacts dry and my eyes puffy, but hey! I felt a little better. At that point, I made a decision. I decided that it's ok if the dishes sit, if we have chicken nuggets for dinner, if the laundry is wrinkled, and the floors aren't vacuumed. What isn't ok is for me to forget that I love being a Mom. It's NOT ok for me to forget to play with my daughters. So, after my good cry, I stuck Brinna in the Moby and we played. We played chase, we hide and seek, we colored, we sang silly songs and we danced. Guess what? The laundry is still there, we've had leftovers for dinner two nights in a row and I JUST finished up those dishes. The world didn't end, my husband didn't leave me, and we've all been in much better moods. Yup! There are downsides to being a Mom, but the good times definitely outweigh the bad!

Everyone gets a check-up!

I'm a little late in posting all of this fabulous information. You'll have to forgive me! I feel like all I've done this past month is run to doctor appointments, nurse Brinna, yell at Adelae and talk on the phone. (It's nice to have a sister to chat with :) )

Here are the latest from all of our various doctor/WIC appointments.

Adelae is 37" and 27 lba. The lady at the WIC office said "She's just so darn tall!" I keep trying to convince them that she gets her height from me, but nobody seems to believe me!

Brinna is 19 3/4" and 6lbs 6ozs. It seems she's going to take after her older sister and remain in the 10th percentile for weight and 25 percentile for height. The doctor definitely is not concerned, since Brinna is doing a fabulous job gaining weight and has grown and inch since birth! We have an appointment on September 21 to repeat Brinna's newborn hearing screen. I'm positive that Brinna can hear, I think she just had really small ear canals and they couldn't get an accurate reading at the hospital. Her appointment on the 21st is with a pediatric audiologist. We're working with the same folks that removed Adelae's adnoids last year, so I'm confident that they'll do a fantastic job.

I'm doing fantastic! I got the all clear from the doctor today. I've lost 15 of the 30 lbs that I gained! Only 35 more to go until I'm at the weight I was before I had Adelae. Honestly, I'm doubting I'll ever see that weight again! I like Oreos too much!

Ben is the only one that hasn't been to the doctor lately! So, I have no idea what his weight is, but he's still 6ft 2in :) He's still working hard, too hard in my opinion! We miss him cause he's gone so much.

Over all we're doing great! Things are slowly setting in to a loose routine around here. Of course, now that I've said that, everything will change!

Not My Kid!

Here's a great new take on Not Me! Monday. How about admitting all those rotten things that your child/ren most certainly did NOT do this week!

Brinna did NOT spend over two hours screaming last night. NO way! Not MY perfect little newborn!

Said newborn did also NOT poop on Mommy a few weeks ago. Then Mommy most certainly did NOT freak out and almost start crying. I'm way more mentally stable than that.

Brinna did NOT roll over the other day. She's only 4 weeks old and that would be almost impossible.

Adelae did NOT hold her hand in my face and tell me "You no talk-a me Mommy. Only Daddy talk-a me. You go in the living room and feed THAT BABY!" Saying something like that would constitute talking back and my darling little angel would NEVER do something like that!

She would also NEVER EVER continue to repeatedly jump on the furniture after I expressly told her not to. Then she would NEVER say "Mommy, I don't love you anymore" after she got in trouble. Nope! Again, that would be back talking and we certainly don't tolerate that!

Adelae most certainly does NOT take almost an hour to eat her breakfast. When she finally decided to eat the other day, she DID NOT proudly exclaim "Look guys! I'm all done! You didn't even shout at me!"

Is Summer Over?

I honestly can't believe summer is almost over! The kids are back in school, the weather is cooling off (not that it ever got that hot) and the days are definitely getting shorter. This weeks Small Talk Six topic is "6 things you will (or won't) miss about summer."

1. I will miss being able to go outside every day all day. Letting Adelae go outside and run around helps her burn energy and helps me save my sanity.

2. I will miss being able to open all the windows. I love having the fresh air moving through the house all summer.

3. I will miss the smell of freshly mowed grass. It's the one smell that tells you IT'S SUMMER TIME!

4. I will NOT miss the flies or the other bugs.

5. I will NOT miss the humidity! It hasn't been all that hot this summer, but the himidity has been killing me! The other day it was 75*, but it was so incredibly humid. I was dripping sweat for no good reason!

6. I will miss all the great fresh vegetables from the garden and Dad's sweet corn patch.

I already can't wait till next summer!

Air quotes totally "rock"

I love air quotes. I love people that use them. I was struck by a lovely bladder infection the other day and got the fabulous opportunity to visit the NP at my doctor's office. She was an avid used of the the air quotes. I'll transcribe the conversation to the best of my ability. Any time you see quotation marks, picture her using air quotes.

NP: Tell me what's "going on" She said you think you have an "infection."

Me: Yeah, hurts when I pee, back is tender..fun stuff!

NP: I'm going to need you to leave a "urine sample." Is that "possible."

Me: Sure!

After I leave the sample...(I know, this is EXACTLY what you want to hear about..)

NP: Well, you definitely have "something" "going" "on" (Each word got its own set of air quotes..how fun!)

Me: Yeah..that's why I'm here!

NP: I'm going to put you on "antibiotics" I'll have "preliminary" tests back later today. If your pain intensifies you could "possibly" have kidney stones. Make sure you go to the "ER" if it gets worse. They can check and treat you for "possible" kidney stones.

I have much more faith in her medical abilities since she used air quotes so often and effectively! :)

Who Did It? Not Me!

Ahhh yes, Not Me! Monday time again! The perfect outlet to admit all your dirty little secrets..or not.

Since I would NEVER forget to bring my daughter's bathing suit home, I would NEVER let her swim naked in her little pool! That would be highly improper!

I most certainly did not tell my husband that if he didn't like the rules, he could go sit in time out. That would be terribly embarrassing! He certainly did NOT go sit in time out, just to make a point. This did NOT make me expel water from my nose because I was laughing so hard.

I did NOT forget to post about Brinna's two week check up on my blog. Nope! I'm always right on top of my blog posts! I would never ever let almost a week go by with out updating everyone!

I also DIDN'T break doctor's orders and return to my normal activity with in two weeks after my c-section. I know that WASN'T ME that did the laundry, and the dishes and carried four gallons of milk! Nope! I strictly followed the rules!

And I would NEVER EVER tell my toddler that if she laid down, Mommy would be up in a minute and instead sat down to type this blog. That would make me a TERRIBLE mommy! And when I took a break to check on her, I most certainly did NOT find her fast asleep cuddling her (my) Care Bear!

Time to RELAX (Small Talk Six)

Time for Small Talk Six! This weeks topic: 6 things you do, use to do, or would like to do to relax

1. I read. I love to read. I read all the time. I was so worried when I had kids that I'd never have time to read. However, since it's one of my favorite things, I MAKE time to read.

2. Cross stitch. This is my new hobby. When I'm stitching, I have to focus on the counting or I lose my place. It makes me forget about all of the stuff that's stressing me out.

3. I would love to be able to take a nice long HOT bubble bath. Unfortunately, we have the absolute WORST tub for that. It's really shallow and not at all comfortable. My dream is to one day have a bathroom with a big garden tub. Or an Infinity Tub. Hey! A girl can dream right?

4. I used to go out to the bars with friends to relax. Maybe someday I can do that again. However, I have a feeling that by the time I'm able to do that, I'll be too old to really enjoy it.

5. I would also love to be able to get a massage at least twice a month. Ahhhhhhhh........that would be fabulous!

6. Shopping relaxes me, for a minute anyway. When I see how much I've spent, I'm not relaxed anymore :(

What do YOU do to relax? Join Small Talk Six and tell me! Go check out the ladies at MomDot and see what they to to relax. Happy Saturday!

I thought bath time was suppose to be fun?

Brinna's umbilical cord finally fell off, so we were able to give her her first bath at home. It was not well received.

Little does she know, she's getting another one today.

Beyond Lazy

This weeks Small Talk Six topic is "6 things people do that you think are beyond lazy"

1. Not putting the clothes in the hamper after shower/bath. The hamper sits literally right outside the bathroom door. I don't understand what it SO hard about tossing the clothes in when you leave the bathroom.

2. Leaving dirty dishes sit in the living room. I admit, I'm guilty of this on occasion, but my husband is the biggest offender. I love waking up and seeing dirty milk glasses or cereal bowls.

3. Not putting your cart away at the store. It's so frustrating! There are cart corrals ALL over the place! Walk the extra 10 steps and put the darn thing away!

4. Not helping to bag your own groceries when the store is busy and obviously short handed, and then demanding that someone help you out with your groceries. I saw a woman do this at Kroger. The store was way busier than they had anticipated, so they were short on baggers. I would guess the woman was about my age and she made the elderly cashier bag and load all of her groceries. Then she had the nerve to demand that someone help her out to her car.

5. Only buttoning the top and bottom buttons on your pants. Ben does this all the time. He says it's because it's too much work to button the ones in the middle. I swear, it's true!

6. Driving around the parking lot for ages, just to find a closer spot. I see people doing this all the time. It makes me crazy! And to go along with that, when people follow you when you're walking to your car. I get all paranoid that they're trying to kidnap my kids or something. I can sort of understand if the parking lot is totally full, but otherwise, just go park your car! Chances are, you could use the exercise anyway.

Oh No Mommy!!!!

I was nursing Brinna this morning, like I do about 100x a day, and Adelae crawled up next to me, like she does 100x a day, no big deal right? Well, this morning Adelae starts FREAKING out. She's crying and saying "Oh no Mommy! Oh no Mommy!" over and over again. I finally get her settled down and get her to tell me what's wrong. She says "Mommy! Brinna's gonna eat your boob all gone!" HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! I explained to her that Brinna was most definitely NOT going to eat Mommy's boob all gone and that she was drinking the milk inside Mommy's boob. That seemed to set Adelae at ease. It was pretty funny though. :)

I'm skipping Small Talk Six

Instead of doing Small Talk Six, I'm going to post lots of fun videos!

I told you she cried the whole time we were in the operating room! Listen to those lungs!

I thought he was taking pictures, but I'm glad Ben got this on video!

Everyone asks if Adelae is a good big sister. I think this proves, with out a doubt, that she is! (And she's also American Idol bound.;) )

There are a few more videos on my YouTube Channel, and I imagine there will be lots more to come.
