At least it's not bed bugs

Am I the only person that's totally freaked out by the bed bug epidemic? I'm petrified I check our mattresses about 3 times a day, just to make sure. So, you can imagine how freaked out I was when Brinna had three little red bumps on her cheek. I stripped the beds, flipped the mattresses and had a mini freak out session. No signs of bed bugs. Whew! Then I found more bumps. I kept telling Ben "It's bed bugs. I just know it's bed bugs." I made him re-check all the beds...twice. (It was the day after my surgery and I wasn't suppose to be doing anything.) Still no bed bugs. Yet the rash continued to spread. It's probably a good thing I was taking my Lortab (Vicodin) or I probably would have been having panic attacks. In case you don't know this about me..I HATE BUGS!
Anyway...the rash continued to spread. I thought "Hmm..chicken pox?" So I asked my stepmom. She said "chicken pox." So, I called the doctor. The phone nurse said "Not chicken pox since Brinna's been vaccinated." Fabulous. So now I'm back to bed bugs.
I can't take the not knowing, so I made an appointment for her. It took the doctor all of five minutes to make a diagnosis. Not bed bugs.
It's hand, foot and mouth. (Not to be confused with Hoof and Mouth or Mad Cow Disease.) Basically, she has a virus. There's really nothing we can do except to give her Tylenol or Motrin for her sore throat. At least it's not bed bugs!

I'm so relieved

When I took Brinna to our new pediatrician the first time, I thought there was no way that she was going to work out. She is part of a larger practice and the information they handed was against everything I believe in. They believe in Cry It Out, I hate it; they are anti-babywearing, I love it; Cloth diapers were not recommended, we use cloth; they are very anti-co-sleeping; I co-sleep with Brinna and sometimes Adelae. But, I had heard wonderful things about the practice in general and they have weekend hours, so I decided to stick with the practice. I'm so glad I did! When I spoke to our actual pediatrician she told me that she has to hand out the literature, but it isn't necessarily what she believes. She loves cloth diapers, babywearing, and she thinks it's ok to co-sleep, as long as it's done properly. Hooray!!! I'm so glad we didn't switch! She did such an amazing job with both girls. I think after two years and three doctors, we may have finally found a good fit!

Brinna continues to grow like a little weed, but she's still a tiny one. She only weighs 9lbs 8ozs (20%) and is 22 1/4 inches long (45%). She is happy and healthy and reaching all her milestones.

Air quotes totally "rock"

I love air quotes. I love people that use them. I was struck by a lovely bladder infection the other day and got the fabulous opportunity to visit the NP at my doctor's office. She was an avid used of the the air quotes. I'll transcribe the conversation to the best of my ability. Any time you see quotation marks, picture her using air quotes.

NP: Tell me what's "going on" She said you think you have an "infection."

Me: Yeah, hurts when I pee, back is tender..fun stuff!

NP: I'm going to need you to leave a "urine sample." Is that "possible."

Me: Sure!

After I leave the sample...(I know, this is EXACTLY what you want to hear about..)

NP: Well, you definitely have "something" "going" "on" (Each word got its own set of air quotes..how fun!)

Me: Yeah..that's why I'm here!

NP: I'm going to put you on "antibiotics" I'll have "preliminary" tests back later today. If your pain intensifies you could "possibly" have kidney stones. Make sure you go to the "ER" if it gets worse. They can check and treat you for "possible" kidney stones.

I have much more faith in her medical abilities since she used air quotes so often and effectively! :)
